Mudelautod are Not Just For Kids

It’s no stretch of the imagination to say that most, if not all of us, had toys that were given to us by our parents. And for those of us that did have toys, many learned about real life professions from them.

One of the most famous toys is a toy car made of wood with working wheels and a string attached to the front. These days, however, much has changed. Mudelautod are now mostly made of plastic and metal. In the past, it was all about playability but today’s mudelautod are all about similarity to the life-size vehicle only combined with a sense of playability.

Miniatures

Today’s mudelautod or bruder cars concentrate, as stated, on details that make them look like small, scaled-down versions of the actual vehicles. This idea is not only intentional, it’s the point of the whole thing: to come up with a toy replica of the actual vehicle where all the moving parts can be replicated, within reason.

What they’re made of

One big part of the realism of mudelautod these days is that they are made of metal and plastic which has a great effect on making the vehicles look real. In fact, some mudelautod are even painted in the exact same color (sometimes with scale effects, like ultraviolet hazing) as the actual vehicles. Given how older car toys looked like, it’s practically a reversal of the toy idea since older toys were meant to look like toys, while newer toys are meant to look like you have a miniature car.

Not just for children

It’s inevitable that mudelautod as they are these days are attracting not only children, but their parents as well (usually fathers). That’s because of one or two things: firstly, these mudelautod are so well-detailed that they act as a “wish fulfillment” of sorts, where a father can collect, say, sports mudelautod so that he can at least have them as toys, if not in real life. Another reason why older people collect them is the fact that they are inherently collectible, either as part of a series of vehicles (by brand, or era), or because they are part of a whole playset, like a farm or construction site. These details make them collectible in the eyes of adults. For some older people, the reason for collecting mudelautod is simple: they have a nostalgic feeling when they buy toys since they remind them of their childhood.

Whatever the case may be, mudelautod are for children and adults alike. And given how current mudelautod are so detailed, it’s a sure bet that in the future, model cars will become even more intricately detailed.
